What happens if your private inspector is not available to complete an inspection? Is there any backup?
Occasionally we are contacted by homeowners who have already engaged a ‘private inspector’ to oversee their build however, have been told that they’re unable to complete an inspection as they will be taking some leave, are unwell or have a clash in their schedule. For a homeowner who was proactive in locking in independent support during their build, this may come as a shock, and it can be stressful trying to find another business to assist at short notice.
Construction can be extremely difficult to gauge ahead of time. Bookings often change with little notice or require re-scheduling if there have been delays. The unknowns, along with the peaks and troughs of the industry make scheduling and forecasting difficult, and the ability to be flexible even more critical.
Time is often of the essence: A pre-pour inspection needs to happen before the slab is poured and can be rescheduled last minute, a pre-plaster inspection must happen before plaster is hung and a waterproof/fix inspection needs to happen before tiling commences, or the opportunity to check the work is missed.
When appointing a solo operator (as opposed to a business with a team or Assessors), there is an element of risk… there is only so much one person can do, and of course everyone is entitled to take leave.
Ensuring that we have the required flexibility to serve the clients we commit to has been one of the important reasons why we have grown our team of Assessors, as it ensures we can manage our workflow with the changes that are ever present in the construction industry.
Our small team of dedicated Assessors provide a personalised service for our clients, and ensure backup is available if should the scheduling of inspections not align. If an Assessor is unwell or taking leave; there is always another team member who can step in.
All of our Assessors are Registered Building Practitioners, not just one person in our business. We have refined systems and processes, invest in training and development, and pride ourselves on our customer service.
If you are considering engaging someone for your independent inspections, we recommend querying what happens in situations where there are clashes in the schedule or they are not available so you are not left in the lurch. You can be rest assured that our systems, processes and depth give us the ability to adapt to schedulling challenges, so we are there for you.
